Perfumes I've brought with me to Mexico
Closing my year out with a tropical winter & a provoking scent trail.
D.S & Durga: Let’s Dive - Is the vibe in your face enough or do I need to explain this pick any further? She’s the princess of summer… I’ll be wearing this as an everyday daytime scent; it’s inoffensive, climate-complimenting, and fit for the occasion. With refreshing notes of sea water & ozone, I feel as though if I get too close to the ocean, I’ll grow a mermaid tail H2O style. She has a very organic and breezy sweetness to her, so her sillage makes it difficult to feel like a headache in more crowded spaces. I’m super confident in my fragrance bubble with her on my skin, and I’ll be touching her up until it comes time for my dinner perfumes.
Frederic Malle: Carnal Flower - Wearing animalic notes on a family vacation is definitely a choice… but a hot & humid one at that. I’ve been on a very mature journey trying to work with white florals recently, and considering this perfume contains a larger dose of tuberose absolute than any other perfume… I deserve a pat on the back. The subtle instances of melon, coconut, and eucalyptus collaborating with the musk, amber & white florals make this a perfect scent to put on after my post-beach shower, and head to dinner with. This perfume is also going to accompany me for the New Year countdown.
Frederic Malle: En Passant - Back to a safer and more aquatic-leaning scent, I thought En Passant would be a good addition to my trip. With an opening of cucumber & watery notes, along with basil & calamus, this juicy & green mist with floral backgrounds is what I will be wearing to the city. Alongside florals, green notes are something I struggle with feeling comfortable wearing, and I’m hoping to break some boundaries with this fragrance. This scent is not floral-forward and reminds me of the ambiance of a springtime forest- innocent animals, a cool stream, and blooming vegetation.
Frederic Malle: Eau de Magnolia - Frederic is quite the star of this vacation... I partially brought this for my mom to enjoy, but this citrus-forward perfume is on a separate wavelength from my other scents. This dewy and aromatic fragrance is the epitome of a rich middle-aged man at an all-inclusive resort, even though I find it to be more feminine with some edge. She’s truly a crisp take on magnolia, existing so effortlessly yet nuanced. When I’m in the right mood to wear her (green and acidic? awake?), she’ll be appropriate for whatever in-resort activity I’ll be involved in. This juice will be accompanied by a dirty martini & my current read for sure.
Juliette Has a Gun: Pear Inc - You could not pay me to take my finger off of this atomizer… unless you come with a serious offer. She has such a simple note pyramid, making her perfect for layering. Pear Inc is my safety net and if any of my fragrances fail to match where my head is at, at least I’ve come prepared with my first-aid. My D.S & Durga has a bit of ambergris in the base so if I’m feeling particularly warm, I’ll top her off with some of this ambroxan, musk, and ambrettolide potion. Since I’m on vacation though, I hope to play around with my other scents and stay a little further away from comfort.
Nostalgia (Anthropologie): Beach Trip - I received a decant of this fragrance in an Anthropologie set for Christmas, and figured this would be a fun time to get to know her. I have limited information regarding the perfumer and note pyramid of this perfume, but I’ve seen the combination of coconut, cardamom, and ylang-ylang documented in multiple sources. I have had her for less than a week, so I am still forming my opinions and putting her under the test. I would like to try layering her with Carnal Flower, as well as getting to know her solo performance. This seems like a lighthearted combination of notes that I could wear by the pool, at the spa, or during lunch.
Memo Paris: Sintra - Last but not least is one of my favorite white floral perfumes (if not my favorite) to date. This ultrafeminine concoction of dessert notes & creamy counterparts is the key to getting a free drink at the bar. Nothing screams fitting the word “like” 5 times into an 8-word sentence as she does; this is such a chic option for the girls who sympathize with Carmela Soprano and rely on retail therapy for a sense of fulfillment. This pairs beautifully with a neutral nail set and a sundress, which is exactly the kind of occasion she will be going to use for. I can’t wear this and be upset unless I’m going all in and sobbing while mascara streams down my cheeks; I need to be in the sweetest mood when I wear her - I fully believe my spirit affects my skin chemistry and the way this wears. Her & I, Italian dinner - it’s a date.
